Careers Provision
Careers provision at Brigshaw High School
Brigshaw offers a careers education programme that prepares students for the next steps in their education, training or employment. The school is committed to ensuring that students gain stimulating and inspiring information about a wide range of career pathways. The programme aims to raise aspirations and broaden horizons, challenge stereotyping and promote equality and diversity. Our Careers Policy can be found on our policy page.
Careers Education
Careers education is embedded in the curriculum for Years 7-13. Individual guidance sessions take place with our careers advisers. There are also enrichment activities such as workshops and visits, the Year 10 Work Related Learning Week, Year 12 work experience and our annual Careers Fair which takes place every February. Careers information
Brigshaw provides careers information through books, leaflets and other written materials and access to careers software and websites. There is a fully resourced careers resource area in our careers room with a range of books, display materials and articles, magazines, FE and HE related take away information, as well as online packages and careers websites. The resource area is open to all students at lunchtime and to invited groups of students during break, tutor time, PHSE time and after school.
Careers guidance
Our careers advisers target support to students at certain key strategic points during the school year to meet students’ needs (e.g. preparation for GCSE or A Level subjects, or on A-level and GCSE results days to offer advice regarding next steps). All year 11 students receive an individual careers appointment to help them as they make their Post 16 choices. Any other student can request an individual appointment or attend our drop in sessions for support at any time. As well as this, careers advisers are available for parents and students at parents events throughout the year.

How do we measure and assess the impact of the careers programme?
The school uses several indicators these include:
- Student voice.
- Impact of guidance questionnaires.
- Careers advisers reports.
- Leeds City Council's self-assessment tool.
- Destination measures and NEET figures.

Carla Brown - Careers Lead
I ensure that every student at Brigshaw High School is provided with comprehensive careers advice, support and guidance to empower students with information to make their own informed decisions for Post 16 options and pathways.
The Brigshaw Careers team aim to raise aspirations in our young people and embed careers learning within the curriculum.
We plan career events for our students, such as college/university trips, employer site visits, careers fairs, inviting guest speakers into school and participating in workshops for example CV writing/mock interviews.
